This course investigates into theories of civil society and social movements, and addresses examples of how evolving networks of social actors have responded to and participated in processes of global change. Students will study the historical emergence and evolution of social movements, such as the feminist, indigenous, environmental, peace and anti-globalization movements. Prerequisites 1.0 credit in 200 level GS courses, or permission of the instructor. Exclusions GS340p.
