SY412 – Constructions of Parenthood and Childhood in Canada. – 0.5 Credit

The social and historical construction of motherhood, fatherhood and childhood in 20th century Canadian society is examined. There is a particular focus on media representations. The social understandings emerging from developmental psychology and expert parenting advice are also analyzed from a sociological perspective. Prerequisites SY210 (or SY204*) or SY201*; SY389 or (SY387 or SY388), or YC100, YC200 and YC300. Exclusions SY452k.
