Using contemporary sociological perspectives, this course provides a critical analysis of Canadian families and family life. The social-historical changes in the organization of family life and cultural understandings of families are explored along with current issues facing Canadian families. Emphasis is on the link between family life and larger socio-economic structures, gender relations within families, and contemporary diversity in family life. Prerequisites SY101 or YC100.
