RE366 – Religion and Violence – 0.5 Credit

An investigation of the relation of religion to violence, this course concentrates on phenomena such as war, “ethnic cleansing,” terrorism, civil strife, and other examples of violence activity directly supported by religious groups or inspired by religious motives. The course examines theories and case studies intended to help us understand the tensions between religious promotion of peace and non-violence, on the one hand, and enduring religious support for hate and violence, on the other.
