NE231 – Classical Akkadian (Amorite Period) I – 0.5 Credit

Fundamentals of the classical period of Akkadian: phonology, the cuneiform writing system, grammar, and acquisition of a basic vocabulary and rudimentary reading skills. Students will learn to interpret and analyse simple selections from Codex Hammurapi as well as simple contemporary texts from Larsa and elsewhere but are advised that a minimal general competence in Classical Akkadian requires successful completion of NE232 as well.
