NE221 – Classical Hebrew I – 0.5 Credit – Winter

Fundamentals of Classical Hebrew: the Square Script alphabet, Tiberian pointing and classical pronunciation, grammar of narrative, and acquisition of a basic vocabulary and rudimentary reading skills. Students will learn to interpret and analyse simple selections of Classical Hebrew prose but are advised that achieving a minimal general reading competence requires successful completion of NE222 as well. Prerequisites Year 2 standing, or permission of the department. Exclusions NE111.
