JN313/OL313 – Public Speaking – 0.5 Credit

This course teaches students the principles and practices of public speaking. Research, creative analysis and synthesis of topics, organization, language usage, vocal delivery, movement, rhetorical strategies and audience analysis are emphasized. In addition to impromptu monologues, students will be required to present prepared in-class speeches. Speeches will focus on communicating to mass audiences in such contexts as: social addresses, community presentations, press conferences or media interviews. Theory and practice in persuasion will be discussed in relation to social and behavioural science research. (Cross-listed as OL313.) {Skills} Prerequisites CT222/JN222/MX222 or PP201.
