HI459 – Research Seminar on Imperialism & Culture: British Discourses on Race, Gender, Class & Nation, c. 1850-1914 – 1.0 Credit

This seminar will explore how the possession of the world’s largest empire shaped the culture of the metropolitan culture of the United Kingdom. Victorian culture and its imperial dimension transformed the identities of race, gender, class and nation. The seminar will introduce students to these issues and to new departures in cultural history. {S} Prerequisites HI409. Exclusions HI459*. Notes 1.0 credit, one-term research course.
