HI405 – Reading Seminar on German Politics, Culture and Society, 1918-1949 – 1.0 Credit

This course centres on the problems of Germany in the period between the end of the First World War and the early phases of the Cold War in Europe. It examines the reasons why so many `ordinary’ Germans saw the Nazi Party as a `reasonable’ political option, how the Nazis fundamentally changed the lives of the German people, and how the defeat of Nazi Germany led to the Allied ‘reconstruction’ that reshaped "Two Germanies." {S} Exclusions HI455* taken prior to May 1, 2010.
