An elaboration on cartographic principles with an emphasis given to designing thematic maps as part of a communication system. Topics will include map visualization and communication, treatment and exploration of cartographic data, elements of thematic map design, terrain models, ethics and uncertainty, map animation and virtual mapping. Prerequisites GG251 or permission of the department. Notes 2 lecture hours, 2 lab hours
